Old golden retrievers?

I have 2 golden retrievers, they’ve had a great life, both 11 years, but one of them now has bad hip problems. She’s been taken to the vets, and he suggested "metacam" or injections twice weekly.
we went for the metacam medicine option, she’s not in pain at all, just off her food.
the injections seem a bit drastic, i was wondering if anyone has experience of this? and if it works? the treatments very expensive but we’re willing to pay if it would help her. I get the feeling the vet just wants the money.
any other advice on oils or anything for joints?

I’ve owned Golden Retrievers and relatives have had Labs.I know that everything depends on there personallity and that they are both great loving companions.
But which one is a better hunting[retrieving] dog?
So mainly which one is better physically?
      Ex:
      Which is stronger?
      Which is faster?
      Which is a better swimmer?
And does the Golden’s coat give it an advantage in the cold?
After answering those questions decide which one is physically better
I really need to know this so please answer with good answers

This is Sunny, my precious 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy! He’s showing off all the tricks he’s learned so far… well almost all of them. He also knows “Come” and “Find”, where a member of the family can hide and he will seek them out! The tricks he does in order are Sit, Down, “Bang” which is Play Dead, Shake a Paw, Stay, and Leave It! He’s very smart, I can’t wait to teach him more! I’d love to hear comments! *No rude ones please* Thanks, Enjoy!

Golden Retriever Puppy – Murphee at 10 weeks

This is my new baby. Murphee Journey Mills. He’s a 10 week old pure bred golden retriever puppy. we drove all the way to Indiana to pick him up. He has been the sweetest most loving and playful puppy ever. everyone we see tells us he should be a calendar puppy, or commercial puppy. we agree totally, but living in West Virginia, it makes that option almost impossible. he also has the most wonderful personality. very loving and social with everyone! we love our dear murphee to death =] and he’s a very smart dog.and also, if you are interested in casting him in a commercial, or anything of the sort. message me back. thank you! and if ur wondering, no he’s not for sale. hahaha. he’s my baby =] and yes he DOES look like Mick Jonas’s Elvis as a puppy =]lol

I am looking for a hunting dog, and I have narrowed down my choices to a Golden Retriever and a Brittany Spaniel. I am sure both are excellent choices, but I am unsure which would be best suited for me.

The dog NEEDS to be good with a young child (4 years old).
The dog NEEDS to be able to live in a 100′x100′ yard.

In order of importance, I would like my dog to:
          (1) Point and Retrieve game such as Quail and Dove.
          (2) Not be afraid of swimming to retrieve an animal, such as a Duck.
(3- not necessary, but it would be nice) Aid me in hunting rabbits.

Easily trainable and obedient would be very helpful.
My main concern with the Brittany Spaniel is that I will not play/exercise with it. On the average day, I will be able to walk and run with the dog 1/2 to 1 miles.

My mind is not 100% set on the breed I want, so if you name another breed that is well suited for me I would appreciate it.

Also, if you would name the Pro’s and Con’s of each breed it would be appreciated.
